Summary
The hustle and bustle of the season cannot distract Colin from the void that has been growing day by day as Penelope strategically avoids him at every turn. Summary
The night Colin returns to London, he’s expecting a hot meal, a long bath and a soft bed. Instead, he chases Penelope through Bloomsbury, gets arrested by the Queen’s Guard and is accused of being Lady Whistledown’s co-conspirator. Luckily, the solution Colin comes up with to save both their necks is simple: convince the Queen that he and Penelope were merely meeting to elope.
But when the Queen calls their bluff, they have to pretend to be in love whilst somehow getting out of this marriage he’s just accidentally trapped them in. Which wouldn’t be a problem except that for some unknown reason Penelope despises him, and, to be frank, Colin isn’t too happy with her either.
A Regency rom com inspired by The Proposal.

Penelope Featherington and Benedict Bridgerton both have their hearts broken the night of the Featherington Ball. Penelope, by the implosion of her friendship with Eloise, and overhearing Colin's casual mockery of her as a marriage prospect. Benedict, by the realization his spot had the Academy had been bought by Anthony.
When the two stumble upon one another in the aftermath, they come to the conclusion that typical love-match marriages are overrated and decide to eschew the edicts of the Ton by getting engaged.
