Summary
In another world, in another life, Luz was born in the Isles. In that world, Luz was adopted by Eda, and taken in. In that world, she became quickly became a powerful witch under her adopted mom’s guidance and teaching.
In that world, in that life, Amity Blight was born under two twins, under the family name, under the pressure of being the heiress to her father’s company, molded into a machine from her mother, and suffered under expectations created from the feats of her siblings. In that world, she would have to leave the world of fantasies of childlike wonder of her childhood behind, barely fourteen, and grow up into an independent woman of stature and grace.She was supposed to go and study abroad, live up north in the snows for 3 months to a year, depending on how soon Odalia Blight wanted her pawn back. She would go with her two siblings, already their third year attending, and use that time there to make friends and establish relations with children around her same age with the same status.
She wasn’t suppose to enter a world known as the Boiling isles, where witches were born and raised.She wasn’t suppose to meet Luz.

"Camilia Noceda isn’t stupid. She knows that wherever her daughter was during the summer it definitely wasn’t Reality Check. She is also not blind and can plainly see that 1) all of Luz’s friends from “camp” have pointy ears 2) Ms. Clawthorne wears mismatched clothes twice her size and her “dog” actually talks 3) the brochure for their so-called school looks like it’s been scavenged from a kindergarten 4) all of them are absolutely flabbergasted by most human things 5) and less relevantly but very noticeably: the Amity Blight blushes an impressive shade of scarlet around Luz."
The summer ends and Luz has to go back to the human realm. Too bad the Boiling Isles wants her back

Summary
After having an oddly, realistic dream, Luz is surprised to see the creatures from the dream invade the Boiling Isles. Watching as her friends are sucked away into darkness, she is apparently chosen to wield the only weapon that can save everyone? Not only that, she gets to visit other worlds? All she wanted to do was become a witch, why did this have to happen?...then again, traveling to other worlds probably won't be that bad.
