    "Y'know," Sunny's tone is slow. Deliberate. "Sometimes I wish I could build a bomb big enough to kill everyone in this city. Do them all a favor."

    They were inside Sunny's workshop. Automatons hung from the ceiling, strung up like butcher's carcasses. Grease and oil stains and old burn marks littered the concrete floor, every table and wooden surface. Sunny's goggles were strung around his neck, thoughtlessly pulled down in the middle of a conversation and not put back on since.

    Smog choked the street outside. As it always did.

    Basil doesn't say, that's crazy talk, Sunny. Basil doesn't say, you shouldn't say things like that, Sunny.

    "I think you could," he said instead. Quietly. Honestly.

    Sunny snorted. It didn't sound very amused. "Probably. Maybe. I don't know."

    They sat in silence, for a moment. As if thinking hopefully of the idea.

    (Or: in which Basil is an optimist. Really. He promises.)
