'Hot tears carved down Steve’s cheeks, while the water rose another inch around his ass and lapped at his shins. He was gonna die! Why did he think building a freakin’ burrow like a bunny was gonna keep him or his pup safe? Now, he was too scared to move, couldn’t feel anything in his hands and feet, other than the stabs of icy pins and needles. His lungs were tight and shuddering and he couldn’t seem to get enough air.
Then the scent hit. “Alpha?”'
Or, O!Steve is homeless, rejected, and with pup. He’s got to look out for his little one alone, tho’ some Omega instincts—like building nests underground on stormy nights—aren’t particularly helpful. Fortunately, A!Eddie’s on his trail.

“You don’t need to defend me, Wolfgang.” She murmurs. “I don’t want you getting in trouble for that.”
“But I want to defend you.” He says a little angrily. “Steiner and all his stupid friends need to know they can’t treat people like that.”
Irina laughs, a low and quiet sound that makes something bloom in Wolfgang’s chest.
“You are so brave,” she says, finishing up, “and so good.”
Wolfgang swallows. He doesn’t think he’s good, but when his mother says it like that how can he deny her?

“You can, uh…you can call me Buck,” he offered a little awkwardly through his PR smile, still plastered across his face. He was trying not to make it too obvious to the cameras that he was speaking.
There was a pause, long enough for Buck to think he already ruined everything, before he heard the regent offer back,
“Eddie.”

Summary
There's a part of Eddie that's tempted to do something insane, something that'll absolutely fuck up this Eddie's day, if he's a real person with a real life that Eddie is just borrowing for the time being, and not an elaborate figment of his own subconscious. Something like hopping on a plane to Los Angeles, tracking down whatever version of Buck lives there now, seeing what happens.
He wants to know if Buck would smile at him again, without the weight of history between them. If maybe, in a different world, he'd want Eddie.
Or: in the aftermath of a deadly car accident, Eddie finds himself able to visit other lives he could have lived: other worlds, other possibilities, and maybe - just maybe - a chance to get things right.
