    Rex is adopted by the clone commanders as a cadet and rises through the ranks because he is a BAMF and a king. Then he gets paired with the craziest kriffing Jedi in the GAR and somewhere along the way finds his own family.

    Or: Rex has never really fitted in. So whenever the opportunity presents itself he collects all the misfits. The other commanders think this is both the best and worst thing ever to have happened.
