    “Rozanov, are you out of your fucking mind?” Shane shouted, furious and startled, flailing as his gear clattered loudly. “Put me down!”

    Ilya did not actually manage to hoist him or shake him like a candy jar. Shane’s weight and resistance saw to that. But the rough, sudden jolts that followed

    Tap. Tap. Tap.

    Gravity finally won.

    The puck slipped free from the bunched fabric at the back of Shane’s jersey and dropped onto the ice, rolling neatly to a stop near a referee’s skate.
