A month. It is all it takes before Justin and Brian make their way back to where they belong.
Set between 307 and 308, and delves into the events that split our boys up before bringing them back together.
There have been many takes on that period of time in the show. Two of my personal favorites are Severina’s The Only Way Is Up and AHS’s Creative (Go read them and send them love!)
As I am not as concise as they are, and I needed to make sense of the damned month-gap the creators left us with, here is my (long-winded, hopefully okay) view of the events, in two parts to explore both their points of view.***

Introspective fic and gap-filler of sorts stemming from my constant fascination with Brian and Jennifer’s interactions over the course of the show, in that case from 108 to 205. Warning for the (non-too graphic, but still) reference to Prom-related traumatic events.
Title obviously borrowed from Ms. Aretha’s anthem (though the fic has nothing to do with the amazing lyrics of the song). -

Summary
Sometimes, when words fail, music is the only way one's soul can be heard.
Introspective fic inspired by the show’s meaningful and amazing use of music. Inspired by the scene in 510 where Brian sits in the car and watches Justin set up the updated info for the event at Babylon, before the bombing.
It explores Brian’s relationship with music, and some of my headcanons regarding his childhood and early adulthood, at least what I inferred from the snippets we were given in canon.
Filled to the brim with gratuitous references to music, and as Jack and Joanie Kinney are mentioned, a warning for child abuse/ neglect is in order (though no graphic reference is made). -
