He frowned and shuffled closer. “‘Cause, look, I get why you wouldn’t wanna put a foot near ‘928 right about now. If it were me? Miles, shit; I’d be lighting my portal watch on fire. I get it,” he insisted. “But I’m not gonna lie to you, neither. I think, right now, it’s probably your best bet, mate.”
Miles absorbed this with his hands clasped between his knees and his eyes lowered. He nodded, vaguely, before he looked up. “Yeah. Yeah, man, I get that,” he rasped, and his smile was so pained that Pavitr had to throw caution to the wind and clasp the shoulder nearest him. Miles closed his eyes but didn’t shake him off, hanging his head instead. “I get it,” he repeated.
“Good. I’m glad.” Hobie rubbed his hands together. “Now seein’ as we’ve established that ain’t an option, let’s consider what your alternatives are, yeah?”
Wherein Miles’ friends come through for him, as best they each can, in what is both literally and figuratively his hour of need. Post-canon.
