Kai is at a loss after his whole world leaves him. He's trying to heal the ache in his chest and finds himself in a park in Ninjago City. He starts giving kids hairstyles that he used to practice on Nya growing up. Cole finds him.
Takes place after Seabound and after a probably volatile emotional breakdown once he's over the shock of losing Nya.

Summary
“The city’s safe now, with you protecting it,” Kai said, looking over the lights and listens to the sounds that were once foreign to him. “Ninjago is safe. Plus, Nya is really settling into being a samurai and Mister Borg will be able to give you whatever you need. And…Wu-sensei and your mom and dad…they’ll be able to teach you so much.”
Lloyd’s fists tightened around his sleeves. He stared down at his lap. “You’re leaving.”
Kai bit at the inside of his cheek. Saying ‘yes’ would make him feel so much more guilty, he knew.

Or, Kai strikes out on his own with no plan after his family falls apart following the defeat of the Overlord. But protecting Nya, Lloyd, and his brothers had once been his whole world, so when he finds himself alone, he struggles to find a reason to go on. This gets him some risky coping mechanisms and a lot of violent people breathing down his neck, while his family worries about him.
Otherwise known as, Kai's spiral after Zane's death and the fallout of the team, but I make it worse for him. Feat. plot between s3-4

Summary
Hunger starts small.
Kai feels it fluttering beneath his ribs, like a bird rattling against a cage. It flares and dies now and again, calling him back to that aching feeling. At first, it's nothing to note. He'll just stuff his face with whatever until it leaves.
But after a while, it takes a little more to placate. After a while, it takes too much. After a while, it takes everything.
After a while, it's all that's left. And nothing in the 16 realms can satiate it.
Except one thing.
And he hates it.
Or:
Killing the omukade turned out to leave quite the hefty consequence. Now holding it's curse, Kai finds that on some nights, only something specific can whet his appetite.
Who knew elemental masters could be so... crunchy.

Beneath a poisonous tree in the land of the dead, two ghosts find a fragile and unwilling peace in each other's presence. A moment of quiet in a shared eternity, or lack thereof. Crowned in poisonous white blooms, they built a shelter from their shared ruin, if only for a little while.

Summary
Kai is dead.
He’s barely had time to process that fact, let alone how he ended up in the Cursed Realm of all possible afterlives. Now, to avoid spending eternity as a damned soul, he’s forced into a bargain with the Preeminent: become Her pawn. At the same time, it’s the only way to stop Her Majesty from conquering all sixteen Realms from the inside.
As if that weren’t difficult enough, he’s sent back to the living world with the Preeminent’s ruthless general, Morro, constantly watching his every move. Time is running out, and playing on both sides won’t save him or the Realms.In short: Possession AU in which Kai ends up in the Cursed Realm and gets stuck with annoying ghost. Of course, it's a destiny ship~
