Adrien and Marinette had an unspoken agreement: They were mutual enemies. Adrien was best friends with Chloé, who hated Marinette's guts. Thus, by extension, Adrien and Marinette have less than friendly feelings for each other.

Rui remembers the summer he spent at his grandma's vividly. That means he remembers when he first met Nene, the shy next door neighbor. When he leaves, he tells her he'll come back again.
He doesn't. She forgets who he even is. He doesn't know that, he remembers everything.
During his second year in high school, his parents have to travel overseas for their jobs. He stays in the country and with his grandma. Transfers schools. It's a weird adjustment just moving at such an awkward time in the year. He's flexible though.
The school rooftop is where he meets her again. Rui greets her happily. A reunion of two childhood friends, what could possibly go wrong!
