Summary
Corin tries her very best not to remember what she saw that fateful day all those weeks ago. Whenever she feels her mind wandering off in that general direction, she imagines herself sweeping the writhing mass of the memory under a rug, stomping on it with both feet, and cutting up the rug and the floor beneath it with a chainsaw. The visualization exercise buys her precious moments of peace and serenity and she is able to go about her day.

Alhaitham had once seen Kaveh, in a fit of frustration, scribble all over his paper until the nib tore through the heavy cotton sheet. The resultant mess was as if an ink bottle had vomited all over the paper: an indecipherable, angry black blob of rage. The unintelligible sound Kaveh made now was rather like that ink blob.
"Rrrrrnnnnngggghhh!"
Alhaitham yawned, so big and wide his jaw cracked. Rrnnggh was not a response deserving of a reply, so he closed his eyes again.
As he dropped off, he did so to the lullaby of Kaveh's anger:
"Are you going back to sleep!? I'm not done with you yet, you asshole! Wake up or I'll fuck you while you're sleeping...!"
And he heard himself say, just before sleep claimed him—
"Go ahead."

Xie Lian is momentarily frozen. Outside of heaven, no one calls him Highness except in jest, and there was a time people threw flowers at his feet as if to make a carpet for him to walk upon, but those years are long past. “Thank you. This is a—a princely gift.”
The spirit’s black-pit eyes go wide and then he grins, revealing long, wicked teeth the color of tarnished silver. “Yes! Yes, I knew it was meant for his Highness.” The spirit nods to Hua Cheng, too, whose grin has widened to something almost obscene.
“Truly,” Hua Cheng agrees.
