When Grace gets seemingly teleported by means unknown into the SM-13 right as it was nearing The Light, both Simon and Grace have no idea what is happening. Grace knows he was supposed to be in his house on Erid, Simon knows this new guy cannot possibly be a hallucination, and Ava, upon hearing Grace ramble about theories for how he got there, knows that new guy is Smart. Could-Secure-Our-Survival Smart.

Grace's poor, starving brain is just so horribly desperate for something interesting to happen again. For the bland days to be swept aside, in favor of the buzzing excitement of something new, something fresh to be happening.

Well, worry not, Dr. Grace! Your wish is about to be granted!Oooor, one of the many fics that explore the what if of saving Simon and leaving him in the hands of the very capable Dr. Captain Ryland Grace, and his best friend Rocky. And eventually Adrian. Navigating the adjustment to a comfortable life, coping with trauma, some well deserved happiness, and perhaps (NOT perhaps) a romance.
I'm a sucker for happy endings I fear.Chapter titles for each story chunk are going to come together into a full sentence. Each sentence will vvvvaguely summarize said chunk, and each title will hint to the events in said chapter. 😋

Guilt weighs on him, far heavier than the artificial gravity holding him against the floor. “It's not that simple…”
“Grace promise watch Rocky sleep always. Grace promise Grace live, go to Erid with Rocky. Grace break promise plural.”
He takes a shaky breath, unsure of what to say.
“...I’m sorry. I didn't… want to.”
“Then why?”
He can't articulate an answer.
Grace struggles to make peace with his past and cannot find it in himself to be the savior that the universe needs.
Fortunately for the universe, Grace isn't alone, and is surrounded by love whether he likes it or not.
