She lost count of how many days she spent under that thick cloth, managing to keep away the worst of the cold in the mountains. Occasionally, it would slip off to the side and she would look up at the sky, blue or gray or black, wondering if Soo-Won would come to save her. Or Hak. Or her father. Perhaps even Joo-Doh.
If nobody she knew came to save her soon enough, she thought stubbornly as she wiped the last of her wet cheeks against her shoulder, she was going to just do it herself.
Yona is twelve years old when she gets kidnapped. When she escapes and is found by the Pirates of Awa, she chooses to stay with them and help her people rather than go back to her life as a sheltered princess.

They hadn’t realised that in their midst was the Devastation of a Ghost King born out of the kiln of Mount Tonglu; the anonymous ghost nicknamed Crimson Rain Sought Flower who had burnt down all the temples of thirty three gods in a single night. Perhaps that was why, instead of darting forth to dig out the hateful god’s eyes, he found a delicate smile gracing his lips upon hearing Jun Wu’s words.
“Fire Master Hua Cheng, I welcome you to the Heavenly Court,” his lilting voice said. “Here, you may claim your place amongst the heavens.”
Hua Cheng ascends as the Fire Master years after he's established himself as a Ghost King. And instead of jumping back down from the heavens, he stays.
