Red pupils bore into a golden eye like a Hell ant pushing through its hill; pulsating with effort of the tiny edges around it, she saw Vaggie’s pupil engulf her iris in an ebony abyss that Charlie saw herself drowning in. She couldn’t get out of it no matter how hard and far her arms stretched, no matter how her fingers grabbed and scratched at air. The ink filled her mouth, her lungs…and it was delectable. She was drowning; she was being left to herself in darkness. And she welcomed it. She welcomed it with everything in her, and she didn’t want to leave it. She wanted to swim in it, bathe in Vaggie.

Hands are beautiful, useful things. They’re one of the first things infants take notice of on their bodies; they’re important for picking things up; they’re needed to help with one’s sense of touch upon feeling picking up an object, whether it be big or small. Hands are the gift many take for granted, truth be told. The long appendages—the fingers—that connect to the hand via joints are also vital to everyday life. Why, they press and poke and even tickle when their target least expects it, but for some, their role is more crucial, more pivotal in certain actions.
