Buck hated Eddie Diaz.
Actually—scratch that— he loathed Eddie Diaz.
The man had been nothing short of insufferable since he met him. Every morning, Buck got up and dreaded seeing the man. He made Buck despise every minute he was in his presence.
It wasn't just his smug smirk or that slight Texan drawl that grated on Buck's very nerves—it was everything.
He waltzed into Buck's life on September 21st last year, hired as a new writer at the magazine where he worked. From day one, Diaz had been a know-it-all, constantly correcting Buck on every minor thing: You need a comma there. Write more. Write less. You spelled that wrong.
To say it drove Buck crazy was an understatement.

He just looks so goddamn young; he couldn’t be more than thirty. Derek’s soulmate tattoo, written in curling cursive handwriting on his chest over his heart, pulses uncomfortably at the thought. He pushes the sensation away, and goes to get ready for a flight to Vegas.

He sucks in a deep breath, bubbles blooming from his mouth as he exhales. It creates a small wall between them as the bubbles rise to the ceiling and pop, and Buck stills when he finds himself looking into pulsing brown-purple eyes, and feels himself getting dizzy when something sweet floods the water. “Just… say yes, Buck. Be mine,” the cecaelia purrs, and Buck keens.
Realistically, he can smell the sweetness in the air, which isn’t something spontaneous, and there have been rumors that cecaelias have aphrodisiac-like venom they can exude from their skin, but honestly?
Buck was going to say yes either way.
