Alexander Taylor had always been different than his family. Mr. Roberts was kind enough not to bring it up, and Todd had never told him anything about it, but he knew he was different.
When he stumbled into Mr. Clutter’s shop that day he thought that this must be why. He was an adventurer, he could use magic and wield a staff. He finally knew where he belonged.
But no one else had eyes that glowed faintly silver, or skin that rippled like there was something just below the surface. No one else could incinerate a dragon with a single command.
At least here, his differences felt natural. Like he was meant to breath the air of the known lands. Like he was free.
