The sky was darkening: the afternoon was ending, but the rain showed no sign of stopping.
Mike, the Dungeon Master, peered over the book at his three friends, eyes shining with excitement. «So, Ranger, what are you gonna do? The Elven Court,» he said, pointing at Will, the last heir of his line, «has already positioned its army. They’re ancient, powerful, magical. They know the oldest spells. Your army, the Human Kingdom of Thorne, has already lost its bravest soldiers in past battles. And the Bard...» this time, Mike’s gaze settled on Dustin, sitting worriedly at the table, «…is locked in the dungeons. What is your next move, Ranger?»Lucas was thinking, staring at the battle map on the table. He connected the dots. Suddenly, he remembered what he had studied during history class and his eyes lit up. He jumped to his feet, fixing his fiery gaze on the smallest member of the party. «MARRY ME!»
Will flinched.

“Why? Why won’t you ever tell me what’s wrong with you?” Carlton’s voice is filled with frustration, and it sounds like nails on a chalkboard to Will.
What is wrong with him. It’s such a loaded question. Why does Will wake up screaming sometimes? Why can’t Will handle the cold? Why are there days when Carlton’s hands on him feel like being kept under water with no way up?
And why can’t Will tell Carlton the truth? How could Will possibly explain it without sounding insane? What is the human translation for being taken and kept in another dimension, violated, and possessed, only to then be violated yet again—
This part of him is something Will is never going to be able to share with anyone else. That nobody would understand.
Why won’t you tell me what’s wrong with you.
“Because you wouldn’t get it.” Will somehow manages to say it without gagging.
And then, Carlton goes in for the kill.
“Oh, but Mike does?”

"I'm so hungry I could eat Will Byers." Jane bursts into a fit of giggles. Mike's heart drops.
"What?" His mouth feels dry. His hands are sweating. He can feel a flush creeping up his neck.
Jane repeats her words between cackles and wheezes, "I said... I'm so hungry... I could eat... Will Byers!"
All of the kids are laughing now, some big inside joke that Mike is the butt of. He feels sick. He feels something he can't place.
"How do you know that name?" He asks, the words catching in his throat like bile.
