Summary
When Beatrice wakes up in the middle of the ocean with naught but the clothes on her back and a suspicious looking apple–her life seems to have taken a turn for the weird.
Armed with the knowledge of canon, an anxiety disorder, and some brand new powers that are about to make that everyone else’s problem–her chances of survival seem to be looking up. Now all she has to do is figure out how to use that to save her favorite character.
But, when events unfold differently from any version of canon she is aware of, her knowledge might just do more harm than good.

The boy is grinning at them, the wide shape of it making the scar under his eye more pronounced as he settles his too big straw hat on his head. His shirt is familiar, dark blue with 56 in white across the front. The boy is familiar, because-
“I’m Monkey D. Luffy!” he announces, voice high and squeaky and raspy. “I’m going to become King of the Pirates! What’s your name?”
“Nice to meet you, kiddo,” punches out of their lungs, painful and wet. “I’m-”
And then, they start sobbing.

"Are you a ghost or something?” He sounds way too excited about that, but that's not surprising. They smile at him. Their cheeks ache. Their eyes burn. They can still feel their skull cracking open, if they focus hard enough.
“Yeah, I guess!” Smiling, smiling, smiling. The curve of their cheeks fills their voice with something false. “Or, wait, maybe I’m closer to a zombie, actually? Since I have a body, and all.”
“Do you poop, then?”
“Not sure? I mean, this dying thing is pretty new. I haven’t tested it out yet.”
He nods, sagely. “It’s a mystery, then. Hey, do you want to join my crew?”
Smiling, smiling, smiling. His eyes are dark as they track the shape of it. They wonder if he can see the way it trembles. “Shouldn’t you introduce yourself first? Kinda rude to just up and proposition a stranger like that.”
They already know what he’s going to say.
They’ve known what he was going to say since they woke up and saw the hat.
(That doesn’t mean that it hurts any less to hear. That doesn’t make it any less beautiful.)
