Summary
AU: Mary never died and if the supernatural exists, it leaves the Winchesters alone.
When Dean Winchester was four years old he almost lost his younger brother for the first time to a fire. When Dean Winchester was eighteen he almost lost his brother a second time to a full bathtub and a pack of sleeping pills, citing some decidedly unbrotherly feelings in his suicide note. At twenty-two he's about to lose him for a third time to Stanford University.
He and Sam's therapist sit down and talk out the chain of events leading up to and proceeding after what Dean considers to be the worst day of his life. He figures out a few things along the way.

“You got another hot Netflix and chill date with Cas? Is that it?” Dean says, leaning back in his chair with a smug smile.
“What? It’s not—We’re just hanging out,” Sam says, wishing his laptop was still open so he could pretend to be paying attention to literally anything else.
“Uh huh, right.” Dean takes a sip of his beer, smugness still in full effect.
“What?”
“Foxholes, Sammy. It happens. Remember Annie Hawkins?” Dean leans his elbows on the table, raising a suggestive eyebrow.
“Cas isn’t—It’s not like that. I would never hook up with him and just leave. He’s too important to me. I—”
Fuck. Fuckity fuck fuck fuck.
When Sam told Cas he could watch Netflix in his bedroom, he definitely didn't plan on the angel draped enticingly across his mattress, stirring up feelings Sam has spent years stuffing down. Great. This is just great. No possible way this could end badly.

Sam loves and sometimes hates his brother, but mostly he just loves him. That they've been through a lot together over the years is the understatement of the century. When the occasional (and totally platonic) handjob has been a staple of their sexual diets for a long time, why are things suddenly changing? There's only one thing Sam's sure of anymore, and it's that Dean loves him. The question now is whether the kind of love he's getting is the kind of love he wants most.
