Caitlyn’s jaw tightens at that, and for a moment, she’s silent — but her eyes don’t waver from Vi’s. “I think you’re scared because you can’t control this the way you can control a gym routine. ”
That hits closer than Vi wants to admit. Something flashes across her face, quick and sharp, and she hates that Caitlyn notices.
“Respectfully,” Vi mutters, shoulders squaring, “you don’t know a damn thing about me.”

Vi rolled her eyes slightly, shrugging and still refusing to meet her sister’s gaze. “Right. So you find me a date that doesn’t know what I look like, I go out with her looking… less hot, and then if she sticks around that proves she likes me for my great personality.”
With a slightly screwed up expression that meant she was about to argue back, Caitlyn sat back in her seat and crossed her arms again, giving a little shrug.
“Fine. I’ll give it a shot. You set me up with a woman who doesn’t know who I am, and I’ll give it a fair try. See if my horrid personality doesn’t scare her away.”
Believing they keep attracting shallow dates, Vi and Caitlyn separately agree to go ‘undercover’ for their next one, hiding parts of themselves. When they’re unknowingly set up with each other, they both struggle between wanting to being authentic and wanting to stubbornly prove a point, as they’re forced to rely on their personalities to make the relationship work.

Summary
Vi’s eyes snap open.
She stares, unfocused, across the room—then reaches out a hand, gentle and trembling, to cup against the empty air before her.
As her fingers meet no resistance, Vi slumps further into the cushions, breathing out a ragged sob whose rough edges tear at Caitlyn’s bruised heart.When Vi falls ill during an Enforcer mission in Zaun, Caitlyn has to care for her until help arrives. And in the process, both she and Vi will confront some of the demons of their shared past—and, just maybe, make some plans for a shared future.
