Summary
When John “Soap” MacTavish leaves the city behind for a neglected farm he inherited from his late grandfather in Pelican Town, he expects soil, sweat, and a quiet life. What he doesn’t expect is to meet Simon “Ghost” Riley, a gruff, masked recluse living in the mountains. Between tending to his animals, the changing seasons, and dangerous dives into the mines, Soap’s path keeps crossing with Ghost’s. Soap came to the valley to start over, but he never imagined Ghost would be the one to take root in his heart.

Summary
John “Soap” MacTavish is frozen under the weight of a singular glowing golden eye. Its vertical pupil dilates and contracts and Soap swears he can feel the physical weight of a touch skimming over his body as it trails up and down him, assessing. The touch feels as if a singular sharp claw is being dragged over his skin, holding him in place with the silent threat of evisceration should he so much as breathe.
So he doesn’t breathe, he doesn’t move, he can’t even bring himself to look away from that eye as he’s studied; as his fate is decided by the sleek, inky black creature standing just a few feet in front of him.
Soap’s skin feels as if it’s burning under the weight of that stare, but he’s finally able to take a breath in. He lets it out through his nose slowly, quietly, and is careful not to move as he tries to convince his body he isn’t in danger.
But he isn’t convinced. . . isn’t even close, and as he’s able to finally tear his gaze away from the one eye that he can see, he becomes almost sure that he is in danger.

Summary
But then he sees it.
The unmistakable sight of something staring at him – eyes positioned just above the water level.
Ghost blinks. He blames it on a hallucination – sleep deprivation playing tricks on his taxed mind. He knows this and still he doesn’t move. The water ripples around the thing, disturbed by its presence at the surface. He scrubs a hand over his face, a last minute attempt in waking his sorry arse up. By the time his hand falls away, the eyes are gone.
He doesn't get a minute of sleep that night.
---
Stationed at a remote base on the edge of the Norwegian Sea, Ghost assumes the worst he'll face is the bitter cold, isolation, and a shark or two. What he doesn't prepare for is something watching him from the docks, showing up again and again.
It's not human, but doesn't seem hostile and won't leave.
Ghost is starting to wonder if he even wants it to.
