    A New Knife by Surveycorpsjean

Warming like frostbite, this story is full of both the dog-loyalty desire to show love and the aching sense of dread in the face of it. This twisted my heart just right after watching the finale!

So whose fault was it? Patrick’s, for throwing her off her game? Was it Art’s fault, for getting in their heads as if he wasn’t there already, as if he wasn’t already a part of their relationship because he was the other half of Patrick? Was it Art’s fault that Patrick always, always came the hardest with his name on his lips? Was it Patrick’s fault for never realizing? Was it Art’s fault for being there that day instead of Patrick? Was it Patrick’s fault for leaving?

Or was it her fault? Did she fuck up during training? Should she have seen it coming? Were there signs that she ignored because she was young enough and stupid enough to believe that she was invincible? That pain and heartache and tragedy was something that happened to other people, not to her, not to Tashi Donaldson?

    Summary

It’s July 10th, 2024, and Oikawa Tooru is an Olympian. His smiling face airs on an NHK promo every 45 seconds. He’s captain of the national men’s volleyball team, reigning star of the professional leagues, and he hasn't spoken to Iwaizumi Hajime in two years.

He has, however, sent Iwaizumi tickets for the 2024 Los Angeles Summer Games.

“So go,” says Matsukawa's voice. “It’s only a few weeks. You’ve got a whole city to hide in if it gets awkward, and if it doesn’t get awkward, well…”

It’s like watching the future reconfigure, like being in high school again, watching team after team fall to Oikawa’s faultless planning and shameless charm.

“I’ll get to watch a whole lot of volleyball,” Hajime says, and resigns himself to fate and/or Oikawa Tooru.

“Hey, when you get there, can you bag a gymnast for me?” Hanamaki asks, and Matsukawa squawks.

Thirty Years and Change (the games of the XXXIII Olympiad) by Sunsmasher

This was an all around delight. It blended humour and tomfoolery while never letting go of the emotional core of the premise, the tension of trying to re-establish a lifelong friendship when there is the desire for more. Even though Hajime and Tooru bickered like children, they felt grown up in a great way- there was wisdom and experience behind their actions. Also featured Kageyama as the dumb cat/house plant/beloved frenemy kouhai as he too gets together with his highschool teammate!

    It’s just not fair.

Kiyoomi had loved Atsumu long, long before the rest of the universe did; back in their awkward pre-pubescent days when Atsumu’s incubus blood still sat dormant and quiet in his veins, back when Atsumu used to pop the collar of his polo shirts because he thought it looked cooler and grew out his bangs to hide his acne and tried to squash down the thick drawl of his accent to fit in better with the snobby prep kids.

Then Atsumu turned 16 and everything changed.

    Almost everything, at least.
