Summary
John watched the farmer, now flanked by two other men, string up a noose, and throw it over a branch of the oak.
No more questions, then.
He had a good couple of years, he supposed. Didn’t think he’d make it too long anyway, but at least he could be John, just for a little bit. Even if it was scary and cold and hungry, at least he was free.
Or

Summary
It’s never silent on the Tulpar. There’s always that constant, droning hum that runs through the walls and the pipes and burrows into the back of his mind like a bug digging itself into his skull. Sometimes he likes to imagine it’s the buzz of an air conditioner or the little desk fan he would plug in during the height of summer days. With his eyes closed he can almost pretend he feels the breeze of cool, fresh air rushing through his hair; that the giant pixelated sunset is a real one, warmth seeping through his skin, and he’s home.
Daisuke reopens his eyes. The cards, on the table, are shaking. Somewhere in the distance an alarm starts to blare.
The crash and everything that comes after.
