   Summary

   “Do you like plums?” Lagos asks as he braces sheet metal for Kai to drill holes in. “How about a date?”

   Kai raises both eyebrows at him. “No.”

   Trying to push down the crushed shards of glass sitting under his collarbone, Lagos warbles a miserable little “okay.” 

   He rustles through the package he brought just in case while bracing the future basket with his hip. One of the dates falls on the ceiling. Lagos stares at it dispassionately while stuffing another into his face for comfort.

   Today is the worst.

   “But I’d like the other kind of date,” Kai says unexpectedly, and Lagos chokes on his food.
