Summary
The first time that the plague bells rang out in Ketterdam, Kaz had ended up beating his brother’s rotting corpse until it was completely dead, then using the remains to float ashore. Even after all that, Jordie managed to get the last laugh. Kaz was bitten. He spent the days on the street, starving, sick and alone, waiting for the virus to reach his brain just like everyone else. But it didn’t.
That time, the plague had been contained to Ketterdam. Thousands died, but the spread eventually ended. Once they were sure all of the victims had been destroyed, and burnt, and nobody else was sick, things began to go back to normal. Slowly, people returned to the streets and Kaz realised he wasn’t going to die. Not then, at least. Not from the plague. Any other potential deaths were still quite readily possible.
