Lumine looks up at him, and smiles. He gets the feeling she is not looking at him, but at her own distorted reflection in his eyes; that in that distortion she's found a taste of who she's looking for.
"You know a lot, don't you? Say, if you had the time, would you mind being my guide?"
(If he could go back to any one moment in his life, change any one thing, it would be this. This single question, he feels, was the turning point for not just his life but the fate of the entire world. If he had answered differently, perhaps everything would have turned out better.
But there is no point in thinking about that, because even if he could go back, even if he knew everything he knows now, his answer would always be the same.)
"Yes," he says. "I could travel with you."
