When Anaxa next opened his eyes, it met the gaze with a man standing under the pavilion overlooking the grand courtyard. The man gasped--his breath hitched, as he clutched a hand to his chest. The moonlight reflected in his gentle eyes, his white hair so soft it seemed to glow.
The man approached, stepping foot onto the same cobblestone path Anaxa had walked on. So slow, the man closed the gap--until he stood underneath Anaxa’s perch in the branches of the Great Tree. Never once did he take his eyes off of Anaxa.
“What is a lonely maiden doing out here by her lonesome self?” The man asked.
Anaxa was annoyed. “I am not a maiden.”
