Summary
Emma should be dead - she was surrounded by infected, and she had seen how quickly they'd managed to kill. They'd gotten so many people in so little time. Hatchetfield had been overtaken in but a day. However, somehow, thanks to someone, she manages to survive. Her trust is about as flimsy as one can expect, but she thinks - maybe - she can trust him. She hopes so. He's the only chance she has.
Paul should be dead - the spores that filled his lungs made every breath of human air painful. However, he'd managed to hold on. The chorus screams in his mind, and focusing on more than the music is like a new form of hell within his own personal hell. He, however, couldn't let them get her. He couldn't let another get stuck in the hivemind. He knows he's a threat to everyone's safety - however, he has a second chance. He doesn't plan on wasting it. She's the only chance he has.
