Carl says something; more of a quiet, hushed whisper which Eugene is unable to hear, his eyes peering into those of his father which have grown to become more black than blue, dilation overcoming them. Rick releases a soft, enamoured laugh, exuberated smile sat upon his weary face. Tilting Carl’s head up with his index and thumb, little force behind it, Eugene can tell, which means his son must have put in the majority of the work, happily going where his father leads, he brings a hand to Carl’s forehead, brushing the hair which rests there away, tucking it behind his hair, putting the back of his palm to what is revealed by the movement, soaking up the warmth it expunges, before the hand, movement slicked by sweat, journeys to his son’s softly pinkened, freckled cheek. Carl immediately turns his head, chasing the hand, pleading for it not to go away, not so soon after its unique comfort has been given. Of course, his father complies, thumb stroking ever so gently on Carl’s skin.
