[As the title implies this work is abandoned, but I won't delete it for posterity's sake. If I ever finish the rework of this that I prefer, then it'll be tentative on whether I keep this fic up]
Ten years have passed since defeating the Elder Brain and so very much has changed.
For the past five of those ten years The Matron, a well known figure in Baldur's Gate even before the mentioning of parasites, has lived her retirement from adventuring and the orphanage she ran in near complete seclusion. Near complete, if not for the occasional visits from her lovers, Shadowheart and Halsin.
She has kept her new life as secret from all others as much as possible, even going to the extreme lengths of faking her own death so that no one would dare look for her. All this to escape her past lover, Astarion, The Vampire Ascendant.
But how is she to cope when during one of her nightly prayers, she is confronted with the possibility that he has found her?
Frightened and angry, she has to figure out how to navigate his threatening to her peace, or rather, solitude. Will she be able to move on and let go? Or will she lose herself and her sanity in the process?
