Summary
The mission was supposed to be routine.
Secure the intel. Clear the site. Extract.
But routine means nothing when chaos decides to intervene.
Reyna hadn’t noticed the silence right away—her focus was on the firefight, her eyes tracking enemies through the haze of gunfire and smoke. Neon had dashed ahead, a streak of blue lightning carving through the chaos. Gekko followed close behind, wings of green energy flaring briefly as he sent Dizzy forward for cover. Everything was moving too fast.
Then it hit her.
Silence.
No heartbeats.
Her own heart stalled as she froze mid-step, scanning the battlefield. She had grown so used to the steady thump-thump of her teammates’ hearts echoing in her awareness that the sudden absence felt like being dropped into an ocean with no surface in sight.
She found them in the rubble, Gekko was bruised but alive.
But Neon’s heartbeat… was gone.
