"Say what it was." He turned. Looked at him directly for the first time since the door. "Don't do what everyone else is doing. Don't be diplomatic about it. You know what it was."
Seb met his eyes. Held them. "They decided the race wasn't going to end the way it was going to end." He said it plainly. No decoration. "And they found a way."

Carlos spots Daniel before Daniel spots him.
That felt important somehow. Like it gave Carlos thirty seconds to prepare. To arrange his face into something that looked casual. Normal. Like picking up your friend from the airport on Valentine's weekend was a completely ordinary thing to do.
Daniel turned. Scanned the arrivals area. Found Carlos. Grinned.
Fuck.
Carlos raised a hand. Waved. Felt immediately stupid for waving when Daniel was already walking toward him. Already dropping his bag. Already moving into a hug that Carlos wasn't ready for.
"Mate." Daniel's arms came around him. Tight. Warm. Smelling like airplane and cologne and something else Carlos couldn't identify but would probably think about later. "Fuck it's good to see you."
