Made for Cullavellan Week 2016, day III - Working together.
Idrilla Lavellan and Cullen Rutherford have spent most of their time in Haven at odds with each other. After the Herald allies with the mages, however, things get bad enough that someone has to give.

“It’s not that. I...” she hesitates, licking her lips nervously. “I have Inquisition work to do and the De Launcets keep interrupting me with their nonsense. I’m running out of places to hide. I know things aren’t good between us right now and that I don't have the right to ask, but do you mind if I stay here for a while? They don't dare come close to your office.”
Cullen is caught off-guard by her request, and some part of him rooted deeper than his penchant for pettiness speaks up. “Of course I don't mind. We may have our differences, serah Lavellan, but I’m not about to throw you to the Orlesians.”

Summary
It's the most unguarded he has been ever since Kinloch Hold, the most vulnerable, and despite her magic he does not feel a sliver of the fear that stunted him for so many years. What they have is nice, and he thinks it's enough - could be enough, if he tried, because he knows that despite all his failings he is determined, and he has had more practice burying his feelings than any man ought to have. She has her work, he has his, and what she doesn't know can't harm whatever good there is between them.

Set immediately after Here Lies the Abyss and Perseverance, but before the romance is initiated. Exhaustion from the battle leaves Cullen a fair bit worse than shown in-game, and Idrilla Lavellan is terrible when it comes to giving gifts. They are, however, great at dancing around their feelings and pretending nothing is happening. -

Summary
The Inquisition is disbanded, and her last encounter with Solas has left Ren questioning everything she thought she knew. Unsure of what to do next, but needing to do something, she starts down the Vir Hanal'Ghilanen: the way of the pathfinders. The Hanal'Ghilanen are wandering Keepers, attached to no clan, who seek to keep traditions and laws between the clans, while also searching tirelessly to uncover the secrets of the past.
If she's going to have a chance at facing Solas and the Agents of Fen'Harel, she'll have to uncover mysteries long forgotten. On her mission, she's joined by Merrill, a recently inducted Hanal'Ghilan, and Zevran, hero of the Fifth Blight. But the three are outnumbered, outmatched, and outmaneuvered at every turn. They'll be lucky to save themselves, let alone the world.
