    Summary

The soul makes the woman. Or dragon, in this case. The course of history changes when one dragon, driven by isolation and the consistent kindness of a human, makes a choice to repay that mortal at the cost of her own life.

Or: What if Jaina was actually a dragon in a previous life before becoming a Proudmoore.

Despite the description being completely accurate, I was quite taken aback by this work. I was absolutely not ready to be faced with such quality or how much joy it would provide. Characterizations which are on point, building up on the familiar while adding more depth to characters and their relationships. Worldbuilding and surrounding descriptions that give you the right amount of information that you need without killing the pacing. The plot is definitely there, however it mostly serves character development, as the focus seems to be on characters and how they interact with each other/the world. Which is a delight to read. This story is not in a rush, nor does it linger unnecessarily. One scene flows into the next very nicely, which allows you to either take a short break between them (self-care, very important) or destroy your sleep schedule and just read a whole chapter in one go (eight hours is just a recommendation anyway). This also means, you will not see Sylvannas at once. She arrives when it fits the story and you will be rewarded for your patience. I would recommend to take your time with this story and not skip parts - enjoy the ride, don't try to get to 'the good shipping parts'. It's not the focus of the story. Which does not mean there is no good shipping content - as with the rest of the story, it is very well written, with warmth and cleverness, leaving you wanting more.

I adore tiny Jaina's small dragon tendencies. No, do bite your brother again, he did deserve it. Elves actually acting like elves. Holder of the 'My Wife asking what I'm reading because I've been grinning for a while' award. Jaina as a brawler is already so fun. Jaina as a brawler who gets into fights and also takes part in illegal underground fights? Fuck yeah! Non-cringey Kul Tiran dialect (we love to read it). While writing all this down I wanted to go re-read everything again. Rangers, rangers, rangers! Who have pets! Magical shenanigans tag with actual fun magical shenanigans. Jaina learning to control her dragon soul empowered magic and just destroying the tower made me cackle. I am still not sick of reading about the difference between human and elven courtship and the confusion that is created because of differences between the two. Spout! Whose presence leads to as much comic relief as it does tension. Never did anything wrong in their life. I adore the change to the 'Daughter of the Sea' song. I was slightly worried Sylvannas' appearance would turn this into your typical fanfiction, but it didn't! "But it wasn’t Jaina who would watch her friend leave. No, instead it was Sylvanas who would have the pleasure of having to see Jaina’s back as she left Dalaran." How dare you remind me of things crashing down soon? Looking forward to be thrown through a wall and then being coaxed out of the rubble with some sweet, snarky or just wholesome character interactions. Very curious to see if the plot will follow Frozen Throne or divert from it. Witnessing Stratholme might be a trigger for Jaynagosa to 'awaken', though the more dramatic point would be when Silvermoon falls. Or maybe neither will happen as another threat rears its head. Exciting questions!
