Summary
The end of exams brings about the reveal of student voted superlatives on the uni's unofficial gossip Twitter account and Soobin discovers that he and Yeonjun won Cutest Couple. The only problem is they aren't *actually* a couple, just childhood besties who grew up together in their little beach town. So what if Yeonjun is extra snuggly with him and Soobin thinks his hyung smells really good? They're *just* friends and he's grown tired of people mistaking them for something more.
Then Yeonjun makes a radical proposal: the two of them date, *really* date, if for no other reason than the ability to tell people they tried and it didn't work. Soobin goes along, deciding it can't be any more annoying than dealing with all the comments they get (not to mention he's admittedly been single for a while and it would be nice to have a partner again, even briefly).
Cue the magic of summer and all it entails: fireworks in the sky and behind his eyes when he kisses Yeonjun, waves of the ocean and of pleasure as they cross lines friends shouldn't cross. There's bonfires and barbecues, short shorts and popsicles, and along the way Soobin realizes that mixing love and friendship is as dangerous as diving during high tide...

Knowing that Minho is dying ruins the illusion of perfection.

“Binnie, listen to what I have to say, okay?” Yeonjun softly asked, waiting until Soobin nodded against his chest. His heart was breaking to see their leader like this. He closed his eyes and steadied himself.
“According to the doctors, a similar situation has occurred before. It was not our fault. It's just how humanity is. Hyung is sorry, I should have noticed I wasn't feeling well. If it's anyone's fault, it would be mine, Soobin-ah. Don't blame yourself.” Yeonjun softly explained, warm words washing over Soobin. Soobin cried more, his hands clenching onto Yeonjun's hospital gown.
Soobin's voice broke as he choked out his next words, as though the words themselves tore his throat as he spoke them, “I raped y–”
Or: Soobin and Yeonjun accidentally mate, changing their relationship forever. Yet, unbeknownst to them and everyone around them, their relationship continues to change as time slowly ticks on.

“And what if I was?” Yeonjun snapped, looking over his shoulder to glare at Soobin, but guilt immediately washed over him after seeing the hurt expression on the younger’s face. “Wooyoung is waiting for me.”
Soobin visibly winced before sighing, running a hand down his face. “Just…just wait, okay? I can fake being sick so we go home. Then you can sneak out once your parents go to bed. I’m sure Wooyoung can wait thirty minutes or so, right?”
Yeonjun hated this as well.

In some twisted old fashioned way, Yeonjun's parents decided his fate before he was born, not letting him have a say even once he gained consciousness. Yeonjun hates every second of it.
