Before the last word got to leave his mouth though, he saw Lan Wangji standing before the procession, looking extremely disheveled for The Emperor Lan. He looked helpless, desperate and almost at the verge of tears. Wei Wuxian knew because he knows Lan Zhan, has known him for years, better than anyone else in the world.
He let out a shocked "your majesty" to which Lan Wangji swiftly turned towards, like a sunflower that had been deprived of the sun for a long time and replied with shaky breath and a mumble of " Wei Ying" that carried a mountain of inexplicable emotions behind it. The next moment, with his slightly red eyes still boring into Wei Ying's beautiful dark ones, he knelt.

Summary
He loves Wei ying unconditionally, true, but he cannot bear to see Wei ying loving someone else too. Wangji knows he is a selfish man. He never loved himself enough though. Life is strange, isn't it? Others always came first. But for once he realized that he should love and value himself, a bit at least, for a change.
He'll carry his love for Wei ying in his heart with him. Because that's a forever inseparable part of himself and that's who he is. But he'll leave behind the burden of his unconditional and all-encompassing love here because unlike in the past, Wei ying is not alone, there are a lot of people who love him and will take care of him now. And his brother loves Wei ying....and Wei Ying loves him too.
OrI wrote this fic for myself. This is catharsis for me, letting go of versions of Wei Wuxians I've read without knowing and i don't like but who still torture my mind living there forcefully (screams in frustration) And if any fellow sufferers are there, they too can read this and let go.

Lan Zhan couldn't speak. Was he still breathing? He wasn't sure. He didn't know if he could see or hear because his entire being had become his beating heart in front of the boy who had just entered the room.
Wei Ying was... young. By the gods, he looked so young. His hair was styled in the ponytail he had stopped wearing along with his sword, as if loose hair could help him hide from the hostility and fear of others. His eyes were bright and happy. His lips were curved into the smile that had captured Lan Zhan's heart from the very beginning.
The Wei Ying in front of him was just a boy, not yet tainted by war's harshness and people's cruelty.

Lan Wangji dies from the thirty-third lash, then wakes up as his fifteen-year-old self in the Cloud Recesses.

He looks gorgeous and Wei Ying hates him for it.
“No, the compensation is very generous.”
“The hours,” Lan Zhan guesses, and that gives Wei Ying an idea.
“Yeah, the hours are too much,” he says, putting on his whiny voice, “I’m still in my twenties, you know? I want to go out and eat with my friends, and, and maybe find a boyfriend and get married, have a few kids, adopt some cats.”
Lan Zhan looks at him as if he has gone insane.
