    But—oh no—it’s too late already, because she hears the telltale patter of footsteps on the stone path, someone approaching her from behind. She whirls around, heartbeat thundering (quick, she has to think of a believable lie!) but who she comes face to face with is not a palace guard dressed in a stiff grey uniform.

    Oh no, Siyeon thinks again. Because the person curiously staring her down is the princess.
