The sight of Abby makes her sick, and she is ready to bolt. At the same time, it’s not the anger and rage she had felt for the past three years. It’s just anguish. It’s just Joel’s face flashing behind her eyes. His old, wrinkly face pulled in a smirk. Half of his face is gone as he lies dead on a concrete floor, and Ellie tries to wake him up like he’s not missing half of his brain. She’s just tired.
The girl stares at her like she’s unsure of what she sees. Then, something wakes up in her as she scrambles to her feet and grabs a handgun from her pants.
“Fucking hell, I’m not going to fucking kill you,” Ellie mutters, observing how Abby hesitates whether to raise the gun or not. “I just saved you,” she adds.
“You didn’t know you were saving me .” The voice takes her back to Seattle. No. No. She can’t think about that. It’s in the past. It already happened.
“I knew.”
or Ellie and Abby's paths cross again after Santa Barbara as they are trying to live and move on from the horrors they inflicted on each other.

Chloe Price is going into her senior year, excited to be rid of Arcadia Bay once and for all next May. Max Caulfield, her ex best friend is entering junior year as the new student at Blackwell High School. Their reunion is messy, but things at Blackwell only get messier as a student tragically dies under normal circumstances: rather too normal if you ask Max.
The two of them would make a clean detective team, if Max wasn't so nosy and Chloe wasn't so reckless. They make it their mission to figure out what's happened: but being a private school student is demanding enough. Soon enough, they're sent down a path of discovery that they can't get out of.
