Summary
And she takes the bait, because of course she’s stupid, and of course she’s– angry. Worried. A buzzing beneath her fingertips and she forces herself to breathe in the cold air so she doesn’t say something they’ll regret. “Maybe it’s because I love you. And maybe because it was possible before.”
“But not now.”

Summary
Wayhaven’s mornings die like swallows in winter, Morgan muses; a melodic thought drowned in the detective’s cologne and smoke and blood-tinge. The cold had been slowly receding, the sun’s brightness pouring sickly across window shades and illuminating the beige apartment. Shifts where she stands, watching Amal Ikram mumble something under their breath, fingers haphazardly opening a cabinet and pulling out a container. Bleak, no label, but the smell of pepper wefts from it. They roll their tongue against their teeth and turn to look at her. “You listening?
She shrugs, then nods, then frowns when they sprinkle too much into their breakfast. When they're still quiet, she sighs. “I’m here with you, aren’t I?”
