The empty space in his chest grew ever hungry. It landed him on his mother's doorstep, near hysterical as he asked if she was sure she gave life to a child and not an ever growing vortex that would never be satiated. You are my son, she had said with her own eyes brimming with tears, I will love you regardless. Even if he is empty, even if his very being is all consuming? It felt nigh impossible. He is hungry and hollow and desperate to claw his way into someone's side so he may become a part of them, creating a space to become an organ with a necessity rather than a void to consume.

"I miss Schlatt sometimes."
A confused warble passes Ranboo's lips. "Do you miss him now?"
Tubbo shrugs. "Yeah, I think so."
"Why?"
"He was nice sometimes." Ranboo opens his mouth before promptly snapping it shut, concern in his eyes. "Sometimes I think he wasn't actually all that bad. I mean, I've done horrible things to Tommy and he still forgave me, but I've not forgiven Schlatt."
"Do you want to?" Ranboo's tail wraps around Tubbo's wrist as he shifts closer. "Do you want to forgive Schlatt?"
"I don't know."OR
When you're born in a burning building, you think the whole world is on fire. Tommy and Ranboo work to show him that warmth isn't there just to burn you. Sometimes it's ok to embrace the warmth; it doesn't always mean the world is on fire.

Summary
"Why?" Tommy pleads because he doesn't understand, he can't.
"Because I care about you, Tommy," he says it so softly, so simply, like there was never another option.
"But you don't love me?"
"I love you. I know I forget a lot, but never that. Never you."
Tommy tries to breathe through the constricting feeling in his throat, because if he stops for even a second, it's all going to come crashing down. "I don't get it," he says, and it burns trying to speak like this.
"That's ok," Ranboo assures. "I'll explain it, if you want."OR
Tommy isn't convinced love doesn't hurt. Despite this, he keeps reaching out for it. When his best friends turned husbands invite him into their home, he isn't sure they'll be any different. That's alright, though. They have all the time in the world to prove love is good, and gentle, and kind. They have all the time to prove he's worth all those things, too

Summary
When Doomsday came, when L'manburg had been destroyed for the last time and everyone scrambled for any scraps of normalcy they could salvage, he understood what Ranboo meant about sides. Everything and everyone he'd ever loved for had been destroyed alongside his country, and maybe that was the sort of poetic end Wilbur would've envied, but he wasn't Wilbur and nothing ever truly ends poetically.
