It was nearly midnight when she slipped into their room, the only light leaking into the otherwise dark room being the nearest street-light shining in through the window, the shades pulled away. Lapis was prepared to flop face first into bed after such a long day at work, even though it might wake her girlfriend up, and the only thing that stopped her from doing so was the breathy little moan that she heard when she opened the door.

It was late at night when Lapis snuck across the compound to her room. Earth's air was cool, slightly damp even, but that didn't deter her any. She wanted to see her. She had to see her. Blue Diamond would be busy, Blue Pearl would be resting, and she could see her. It had been weeks since they had seen each other, aside from passing glances in the court or smiles when they passed each other in the hallways. It was small things, and they made her heart ache to see her even more than anything else. She wanted to see her, to hold her close, and to press a million kisses to her lips. She wanted to proclaim her love for her to the stars above, and to Blue Diamond herself, but would never do so.

Cold fingers pressed under the hem of her shirt, and distantly, she could hear the chirping of the insects and other night creatures that surrounded the car. It was late, around two in the morning, and they should have been back home by now, but Ruby wasn't one to complain. Not when Sapphires mouth was pressed just right against the corner of her jaw where her neck met the bone, sucking and nipping ever so slightly.

Together, the two of them laid in the grass atop the hill they had climbed earlier that day as Earth's star had set over the nearby mountains. It was peaceful and calm around them, aside from the occasional chirp of an insect that had evolved on Earth, the sound of a slight breeze blowing across the grass, or the movement of some other animal from Earth in the grass. The stars overhead, the planets their species had conquered, were absolutely beautiful.
