Summary
Ilya nods and takes a step toward Irina, nuzzling her skirt-covered thigh. It doesn't smell of the familiar soap anymore.
“Just a little more,” she promises. “We'll be… there soon, Ilyusha.”
She wanted to say home. We'll be home soon, Ilyusha. But she stopped herself at the last second, because now, it seems, home is gone. At least the one they used to know.
— In 1996, Irina Rozanova packs her two sons' things into one bag and runs as fast as she can, as far away from Russia as possible. That, somehow, leads the three of them to Canada.
