    What kind of backstory is that?

    There was once a beautiful young merman who, to preserve his family's honour, and to avoid being married to a person he did not care for, left the kingdom in order to mooch off of the hermit sea witch because he was a bit of a linear thinker and honestly couldn't come up with another place to stay.
    He didn't think this through very well, and hadn't packed all that sensibly either, but he was in luck because the witch was a total softie.
    And also exactly the type the young merman liked, because the witch was the most powerful merman to ever exist, with a functioning conscience and a pair of lovely brown eyes.

    Really? That's the backstory? Who is writing this crap?
