“Do you smoke?”
I’m sat in the home of Aled Last, who’s just opened the window of his flat. It’s a rare sunny day here in London, but the agonizing heat of August hasn’t quite sunk in yet, making it rather comfortable in Last’s (relatively) new home. I decline the cigarette and he sighs. “I’m not supposed to. My partner would kill me if he knew.” He laughs, and gestures to my recorder lying on the coffee table. “I guess he will, though. Nice knowing you all.”
It’s been one year since the viral podcast sensation Universe City ended, and for the first time, its notoriously private creator has agreed to discuss the project, his life, and what’s next for the biggest name in audio drama.

It has been 100 years since anyone has seen a champion. There are rumors that have spread throughout the land of what exactly happened to them. Did they fall in battle? Did they run away together? Did they lose themselves to corruption? Whatever the answer may be, the state of Hyrule has been shaky ever since their disappearance. The story goes that the Princess was able to seal away the Calamity, hold it at bay before its metamorphosis that would have ended Hyrule altogether. But the Calamity’s influence is felt throughout the kingdom regardless. Monsters plague the land, ancient technology has started to turn against its creators. As the years have gone by, the Princess’s grip on her powers has begun to loosen, and the world needs the Champions more now than they ever did before. Our story begins in a pool of water, in a dark room, with a voice calling to you. “Open your eyes. Wake up.” The water begins to drain, you open your eyes. Where are you? Who are you? And who are these people lying next to you?
