Shion just starts laughing, delirious. “You make me sick.” Her heart beats out of tempo, odd palpitations that make her feel panicky. Bile forces its way up her esophagus. Not enough to really vomit, but enough to feel it hot and sour and stinging when she swallows. With trembling fingers, she grabs Orfevre’s face—just to have her in her hands, to feel that facsimile of power. The untouchable king, brought to helplessness.

Éowyn's hand rose from the bathwater, a few drops rolled down Arwen’s shoulder blades as it came to settle on her back. “Because you are human,” she said. “And to be human is to feel everything.”
