Nezuko’s worry spiked and she hurried as quietly as she could after him in time to see him practically shove the front door to their home out of the way and stumble into the snow outside.

“T-tanjiro?!” their mother asked from the other side of the room where she’d been building the fire to prepare their breakfast. He didn’t respond, not even closing the door behind him. Their mother looked over to Nezuko who met her worried gaze.
“He had a bad dream,” she said softly.
But something told her it was worse--so much worse--than that.

The overwhelming nasty feeling of something devouring him whole.
He can't focus on his surroundings.
He can hear glimpse of voices, though he can't decipher what they're saying.
Everything is blurry, so he closed his eyes.
He can smell the familiar rotten smell turning to the smell of ashes.
He knows what happened to it, so he relaxed.
Tanjiro felt a horrible pain at his chest, but he's too tired to react to it.
'Is this the end···?'
'Will I be able to see Nezuko human again···?'
'···Are the others okay? Zenitsu, Inosuke, everyone.'
'We can finally find peace···'
Tanjiro drifted off to sleep.

Summary
Three things happen slightly differently on the night the Kamado family should have died, changing their fates entirely:
One: Kamado Kie and Tanjuro both died in the Wasting Plague, leaving their eldest to take care of the children left behind.
Two: Kibustuji Muzan is later than he would have been, as he decided to take care of a couple tasks before heading out to slaughter the hanafuda-wearing humans.
Three: Kamado Tanjirou does not heed old man Saburo's warning, and heads home during the night, assuming his sharp sense of smell would keep him safe.
This changes everything.
