I can’t remember the last time I was so enraged, livid, angry…pissed the fuck off. I don’t like it. More often than not, I’m an incredibly chill and relaxed individual. My heavy bag is in the basement crawling with cobwebs. The shooting ranges aren’t open right now. And I don’t feel like getting my bat from the car. Even if I did, I got nothing to hit. So…reluctantly I write. Maybe you think I shouldn’t be so incensed but I don’t really give a fuck. I’m not in the mood to look at the glass half full right now. I feel like I ordered a fully loaded 2023 Audi e-tron in my favorite Galaxy Blue metallic fresh from the showroom with that new car smell. BUT, instead I got a 2003 model with a hairline in the windshield, cracked faded leather seats, bird shit all over a rusted purple paint job (least favorite color), that smells like cat piss in the carpet and oil leaking in my fucking driveway. But I digress…also I love her kitchen backsplash. The following short fic, is just the something my brain needed.

Lucy may be in a hazmat suit, but she still almost throws up when she finds a pair of crusty, stiff, tighty whities with clear road rash on them stuffed behind Smitty’s mini fridge. She gags, channels every ounce of training she’s had to not vomit near dead bodies, and stuffs them in the black trash bag she’s holding before she can think too hard about their owner.
This is for Tim, she reminds herself.
She takes a deep breath and pauses in the middle of Smitty’s RV as she recalls the absolute joy on Tim’s face when he’d told her his news. He’d been grinning, his eyes sparkling and his lips stretched wide across his face.
That was worth this.
That smile was worth everything.
Purpose renewed, she takes a deep, cleansing breath and then kneels down to open the fridge.
“What are you doing.”
Lucy screams, drops the jar of moldy jelly she’s just pried off of a puddle of what seems to be cemented coffee, and spins around to find none other than Tim Bradford standing in the doorway to Smitty’s TV with a bemused expression on his face.

“Hi. I finished what I was doing,” she says, and she so badly wants to tell him what she’d been doing and why she’d been doing it, but this isn’t about that. What she’d done hadn’t been about the credit or the recognition (though she does still love a good trophy). Instead it had been about Tim and getting him out from behind that horrible desk and back to doing what he loves. “I just wanted to hear your voice.”
Tim hums on the other end and Lucy smiles as she hears the rustle of his quilt as he turns over in his bed.
(She’s become intimately familiar with the rustle of his quilt, and she wishes she were under it with him).
“I’m glad you called,” he says, and Lucy has to press the heel of her hand over her chest to make it stop aching as he murmurs to her in his sleepy, raspy voice on the other end of the phone. “And, you know…”
Lucy bites her lip to contain her glee as she hears the suggestive lilt in Tim’s voice.
“What?” she asks, her tone teasing.
“It’s not too late to… celebrate.”
