    You heard Nai shift, his movements heralded with the clinking of metal. “Have you finally come to your senses?”

    A thump resounded from around the corner and you heard Vash wheeze. “Where are you going?” Vash asked. “The exit is this way.”

    “I’m just as eager to leave,” said Nai. “But first, I want to see what you’re trying to draw me away from.”

    You flattened yourself against the wall, breath coming fast. There was nowhere to hide.

    It had been one hundred years since the fall. One hundred years since your previous life exploded into shrapnel and burned to the ground. One hundred years of watching the assembly and subsequent destruction of lives around you. Vash, your cards, and the restlessness were your only constants.

    You shuffled the deck, the cards bending and swaying together under your fingers. They were old and worn, the glossy finish long gone, but you loved them all the same. They kept you from forgetting.
