Astarion smirks. "No worries, I will gladly accept your praise.”
“Please do,” Gale says. “I fear an excess of praise has only ever led me to ruin.”
Astarion can’t help himself. “And what if I’d like to ruin you?”
He is close enough that he can sense Gale’s heart beat faster. Gale gives him another admonishing look, but there’s a smile pulling at his lips. “Then you’ll have to try harder than that,” he says.
Astarion fears that if he still had a functioning heart, it would beat faster, too.
Or, Astarion and Gale attend Lord Gortash's coronation masquerade together. Platonically. As allies. Yes, it's a decadent ball full of masked strangers malevolent and benign; yes, Astarion has spent tendays summoning all of his willpower to resist the urge to make out with Gale in the middle of the Elfsong. Never mind all that. Everything is going to be fine.
