The answer haunted her as she kissed the random from the tiki bar, another tourist from Australia, callused fingertips creating fire along her hip bone, right where she had a tattoo of the chicken that was the official mascot of Poguelandia. She pushed him off of her, and ran her tongue along her teeth.
It had been six years.
It couldn’t still be that after six years.
Or: After six years, a certain wedding of one John B. Routledge and Sarah Cameron brings Kiara back to Outer Banks. Six years of running should be enough time for Kiara to get over JJ. Right?

Summary
“You know, we’re in here for twelve hours.” Kie crossed her toes in her socks and stretched a few of her leg muscles so that she could test out how her blood was feeling. Doesn’t hurt too bad.
Won’t hurt enough to make her retract her earlier observation.
Definitely won’t hurt enough for her to not want JJ looking at her like that.
“Mm,” He opens his eyes again, and she stares at his lashes as the gravel in his voice makes her feel warm. “What are we gonna do?”
She knew that he was being dense on purpose. Knew by the smirk on his face that he wanted her to say it out loud.
“I'm sure we’ll think of something.”

“Get this.” Vee raised her brows in curiosity. “Her biggest client is Rafe fucking Cameron.”
“Wasn’t that bastard in jail?”
“Oh, he definitely was. But it was Kook shit jail, the kind with extra meals. I voted that they keep him behind bars, but technically, he’s not done anything else that’s illegal.” JJ grumbled. “Other assaulting the Pogues-”
“You digress, JJ.”

Or: They get the gold, they make it great, and life was supposed to be good. Except, JJ and Kie didn't stay together, the Pogues fell apart, and Vee feels like P4L is a phrase that didn't stand the test of time. Seven years later, she returns to Outer Banks to "soul search" and discovers a lot has changed, and it's not just that JJ goes to therapy. A deep dive into what it means to keep friendships running outside of a gold quest.
